Our Board of Directors represents each of our seven counties and many of the region’s agencies and shareholders. They are elected on an annual basis by our membership, which enjoys broad regional representation of our health care community, from our county health departments, hospitals and medical providers to community agencies, mental health providers, employers, and a wide variety of social service agencies.

Kublin et al (1998) succinctly state that “Vygotsky (1934/1986) described learning as being embedded within social events and occurring as a child interacts with people, objects, and events in the environment” (p. 287). That being said, I think your orientation schedule is a perfect example of Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory. In preparing incoming freshmen for college, your orientation puts them in an environment where they can interact with campus, both on their own, and with the guidance of others. “According to Vygotsky, adults or more advanced peers must help direct and organize a child’s learning before the child can master it” (Papalia et al, 2009). Your orientation plans are facilitating learning by providing opportunities for guided interactions with the environment.
