Florida’s Rural Health Networks were established under Statute 381.0406 in 1993 to address three fundamental problems that continue to be our key challenges today:

  • The quality of rural health care is negatively affected by inadequate funding and services at all levels preventive care, mental health, emergency medical services, access to healthcare facilities, transportation and health and wellness resources.
  • Healthcare Provider and Workforce Shortage, we have difficulty in recruiting and retaining skilled health professionals to serve in our rural areas.
  • A large segment of the rural population has multiple chronic illnesses and increasing risk for obesity.

The St Johns River Rural Health Network Inc. (SJRRHN) is an active community-based, non-profit organization established in 1994. We serve the seven counties in Florida’s northeast region. The Health Planning Council is our organizational partner, providing staff support and supplementary services including: health planning and research; community organizing; health promotion and awareness; and non-profit and coalition support.

The St Johns River Rural Health Network is one of nine rural health networks in the state of Florida.
